The Jade L Roberts Project

Our Services

Every life lost to suicide is a tragedy. Two people in Merseyside die by suicide every day, making it one of the leading causes of death in the region.

One in 5 of us will have thoughts of suicide throughout our lives. But the stigma attached to suicide often makes it difficult for us to speak freely about these thoughts.

The Jade Roberts Project aims to change these attitudes by raising awareness and fighting to end the stigma around suicide.

Suicide is a serious public health problem, which means suicide prevention is everyone's business. It is important for us to work together to create a safer, healthier community.

WHAT WE DO

At the Jade L Roberts Project, we support men and women from Merseyside who are in suicidal crisis or experiencing mental health difficulties in a safe, non-clinical setting. We provide support in the form of suicide interventions, post-intervention support and pre-intervention counselling sessions. We aim to ensure that everyone in the Merseyside area can access the support they need on their own terms. Our services are open and available via referral, self-referral by telephone or email or through the referral box found at the bottom of this page.

PRE-INTERVENTION COUNSELLING

At the Jade L Roberts Project, we provide pre-intervention support in the form of counselling with our trainee and fully qualified counsellors. We have a team of 10 trainee counsellors that provide quality support for our service users. We offer an initial assessment, flexible counselling courses of 12 sessions and further support where necessary on terms that suit you. We offer support centered around you, where we will constantly seek your views, aims and goals from counselling and do all in our power to give you the support and guidance you need to achieve what you want from counselling. We firmly believe that nobody should have to wait for counselling. We aim to take you from your first referral to your first counselling session within 1-4 weeks at the very latest, so you can receive the support you want at the earliest possible time.

Our counselling team specializes in:

  • EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprogramming): Using eye-movement to face traumatic memories.

  • Hypnotherapy: Using hypnotic techniques to challenge anxiety, stress and habits you wish to challenge.

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy: Challenging thoughts and behaviours through open discussion with a counsellor.

  • Psychodynamic Therapy: Bringing forward past experiences and subconscious thoughts that may shape your current thoughts and challenging them.

  • Person-Centered Counselling: Counselling led by you, with you dictating the flow and outcomes of every counselling session and your counselling plan.

  • Transaction Analysis: Analysing social communications to understand more about your thoughts and beliefs.

At your first session, you will work with our counsellors to pick a system that works best for you to achieve your goals and outcomes from our counselling sessions.

Our counselling sessions currently carry a cost of £10, but we seek to reduce this to free as soon as possible.

SUICIDE INTERVENTIONS

We ensure that our telephone line is available during all working hours to provide the best possible, free of charge suicide interventions. All interventions are conducted by fully trained and qualified volunteers, who have undertaken SafeTalk and ASIST training, the two best methods of suicide prevention and risk assessment. We have conducted over 800 suicide interventions within 2 years of being open, saving over 800 lives and preventing the devastating turmoil of bereavement on over 800 families.

Our interventions are completely free of charge and are aimed at supporting, listening and helping in the darkest of times. We aim to ensure that nobody has to face thoughts of suicide alone, and that we are always available to help guide you through the darkest of times.

POST-INTERVENTION SUPPORT

We ensure that an intervention is not the end of support. After your intervention, we may ask if you would like to come in for further counselling and support. Interventions are not the end of our support and guidance, we will ensure we will be there to support you further and provide you with the guidance and confidence to face thoughts of suicide post-intervention. We will offer the further support, through counselling, signposting or other services you may feel would be of assistance to ensure that you can feel confident, safe and comfortable post-intervention.

SUPPORTING BEREAVED FAMILIES

The impact suicide can have on a family can be devastating. Our charity was founded following Jade Roberts, the daughter of our director Tracey Roberts and sister to our director Jack Roberts, sadly took her own life. Tracey and Jack took this grief and transformed it into a desire to ensure that no other family has to face the tragedy of suicide alone.

Our counselling and support is not limited to those with thoughts of suicide. We also provide our support to families, friends and anyone else who has faced bereavement by suicide. We understand the devastating impact bereavement by suicide can have on a person or family, and we ensure that you will not have to face bereavement alone. We offer our counselling and services to those bereaved by suicide, as well as those currently facing thoughts of suicide to ensure that the impact suicide has on our lives and community is minimized as much as possible.
